![]() Emotions play a key role in Lois Gold's dreamy and ethereal pastels. "My paintings are expressions of my emotions, and when people look at them, it's not important to me that they recognize the specific road or stretch of land," she says. "I want people to simply say, 'Oh, I want to be there.'" Gold grew up in New York and studied languages at Boston University. While earning a Master's Degree in French at Columbia, she started sculpting at night and later took a water color class. What started out as a hobby soon turned into a career, and along the way, she discovered her medium of choice -- pastel. Landscapes are her primary passion -- "Living in New York City, I found that images of the sky and the earth give me a tremendous sense of peace, connection, and happiness." Gold was the recipient of The Artist Magazine Landscape Award in 1991, 1993, 1995, and 2001. As well as receiving awards from the Pastel Society of America and the National Association of Women Artists, her work has been published in many books on the technique of pastel painting. She has been represented by galleries across the United States, and is included in private and corporate collections world wide. There is a secret ingredient to Gold's paintings which distills the beauty of nature and plants it right into your imagination. A rare serenity washes over you as your eyes take you along the fields and paths off into the distance. From a ripe fruit to a mountain range and all the landscapes that lie between, Lois Gold depicts a world of dreams as well as reality.
